A Week with ThreatFire: Supplements the Anti-Virus well!
ThreatFire (http://www.threatfire.com/) has become quite popular recently with its completely novel way of protection. So I decided to give it a try. And after a week, I really think this is a must.
The software claims to supplement the anti-virus that is already installed and gives real-time protection. It says that, instead of looking for known [...]

Recommended Softwares
Audio
- Windows Media Player 11
It comes by default in Windows Vista and is a good software, at least for listening songs. - Winamp
You must have heard of it already. The oldest and most popular audio software available. - Audacity Audio Editor
Though I am not much into audio editing and have no personal experience with it, lot of my friends use it. Guess, that's the first software that comes to anybody's mind for audio editing. It is an opensource software.
Video
- VLC Media Player
Personally, the best software for watching movies. It has a wide support for various video types and is available for almost every Operating System out there! - Windows Movie Maker
Its a good software for basic editing. I don't have very large requirements and this software did most of what I wanted to get done. - VirtualDub
If you need a really good video editing and encoding software, I (rather, my friends!) would suggest to go for VirtualDub. It's a great utility.
Images
- Irfanview
It is an all-purpose solution for all your image viewing problems and basic image editing as well. It has a large extension database and with the addition of various plugins (available as a single .zip file, you can open almost any image (and a few video) types. - The GIMP
A freeware version parallel to the lines of Adobe Photoshop. It does most of the advanced image editing required. I am no expert in it though! - MS Paint
If you want to do a quick & dirty editing of your image, then you need not look any further. This software stutters but does the job! Though if you plan to create a logo or a business card, do not use it! Try GIMP instead.
Security
- AVG Antivirus
It is the best free anti-virus available and protects my computer really well. - Comodo Personal Firewall
For frequent internet users, this firewall works like a charm and it doesn't bother the user much. - Spybot Search and Destroy
To rid yourself of spywares and adwares, this software has established itself as the best in the business.
